A slow week on the lake
No itinerary, no alarms. What happens when a trip is allowed to be boring.
We rented a wooden house with a jetty and one rule: no plans. No list of sights, no restaurant bookings, no alarms.
The first two days were uncomfortable. The third was the best day of the year.
Boredom, then attention
Somewhere around the middle of the week the boredom turned into attention. I noticed the lake changed colour four times a day. I learned which birds came at dusk.
A trip that is allowed to be boring gives you back the part of your mind that notices things.
