I write best before anyone else is awake: one pot of coffee, a paper notebook, and no screen for the first hour.

The notebook is for thinking, not for drafting. Drafts come later, typed, and they are always better for the messy page that came first.

## Surviving the deadlines

The routine survived three deadlines this year and one burnout. What saved it was making it smaller, not bigger.

Twenty minutes counts. A page counts. Showing up counts most.
